Actually what I want to know is where the female paragon dance is from, it seems vaguely familiar.

The beginning of the female assassin dance is skanking.

Although there are several variations, one description is that the dancer alternately puts each foot forward while lifting the knee, and then moves each foot back. The person keeps the elbows bent, and puts the hands into fists. The right hand comes forward when the left leg is out, and the left hand comes forward when the right leg is out. When the hand isn't forward, it comes back about as far as the hip.

That's exactly what it does at the very beginning of the dance. As for the rest of the dance, I don't know what it is but that is definitely skanking.

I have a screenshot of a load of warriors in 15k Platemail armor dance all at the same time in one of the AB outposts.

I'll post it when I get my sisters windows gets a new charger.

The martial art the Male monk is doing is not the form of Tai Chi I know. The weight balance is off as most of Tai Chi is in a 60/40 weight
distribution as well as the ending is entirely overdone. It looks more like Wushu done by Jet Li in the recent Fearless.

Here's a youtube of someone skanking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znyfQmpf3Zc

I don't think that looks like the Assassin.

Bah, I wish Anet would just simply tell us exactly what inspired all the character dances. It would end this debate once and for all!

...but where'd be the fun in that?

As to teh dance; that has to be some of the most ungraceful skanking I've ever seen...I've seen drunks do better...but yea that's pretty much right. Is that Rancid btw, I kinda like that song.

The female Assassin dance makes me think of 'Flashdance'.

The female Ritualist reminds me of gymnastic Beam work.

I already posted one definition of skanking. There are several ways to skank. One is to do exactly what the assassin does at the very beginning of the dance. Which is what the guildwiki page says. AT THE BEGINNING!

She does skank, people. Good lord.

I dunno from what I've seen of skanking, doesn't it require you lift your feet a certain distance off the ground when you kick forward? Like maybe a foot off the ground? The beginning of the female assassin dance, she doesn't pick her feet up off the ground very far. She just sorta kicks forward at ground level. When I first saw the assassin dance, the last thing it reminded me of was skanking. It looked more like the kind of stuff you'd see in 50cent music videos or at a rave danceoff.

By this description, JOGGING would be considered skanking =b
And this description would hardly be proof anyway because beginning of the assassin dance, she doesn't lift her knees during the kicks.

Do you live under a rock? I mean come on - it's obviously "moshing / rocking out" whatever you want to call it. The headbanging, them putting up the "horns".

Two-stepping. She's doing two-stepping. What is two-stepping? Why... it's skanking!

My boyfriend, who is "punk" if you want to call him that, and into punk culture saw the dance for the first time and his response was "Hah! She's skanking! That's so cool!"

The skanking that you're probably used to is the murdered version of it that the kids do at hardcore shows when they don't even really know what skanking is, they're just imitating other people.

I don't know how you kick, but when I kick, my knee bends and goes up at least a little bit. My leg doesn't just swing into the air like a stiff board.

Go search YouTube, go search Google videos, go search Yahoo videos, go search for video of legitimate bands that skank... 95% of the results are people doing very much what the assassin does in the beginning of the dance. There is no one absolutely right way to skank. There is no guide that says "If you skank, you must lift your foot so far off the ground and your knee must be brought to a certain height, and your arms can only go a certain distance back from your body."

about the female paragon dance...

what it looks like to me, is a compilation of moves and steps from various african tribal dances... however, knowing anets penchant for using pop-culture dance sequences, i have been trying to find something more specific...
the only thing that really comes to mind for me, is the missy elliot video for 'lose control'... there are a few sequences of 'tribally-inspired' dance in the beginning, and then again in the end... however, i would not go so far as to say that this is the paragon dance, by any means...

anyways heres a link to the missy video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGU_RqgIHn0

then also, i found this video clip of a woman doinga traditional african dance.... check out the step that she is doing in the first 5-6 seconds of the movie:

I'm pretty sure Female Paragon is a take on Josephine Baker's "Dance Sauvage," but other people have other opinions.

I’m kind of surprised that no one pointed this one, Dervish male dance is from Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice video clip with Christopher Walken

They should make it that when you do it you don’t attract the worm

My wife, who has been dancing for over 20 years, created a female Paragon, started her dancing and remarked, "I remember doing this in college years ago; this looks a lot like Josephine Baker."

I think you nailed it, Loralai. (Funny, my wife uses the moniker, Lorelei...)
